Today I read for the first time ever some James Skeets poems. Drunktown in Spilled Milk…the imagery, story, feeling and language use is breathtaking. I’m a fan! His bio:
Jake Skeets (Diné) is black streaked wood, born for water’s edge. He is an MFA candidate at the Institute of American Indian Arts Low Rez MFA. His work has appeared both online and in print. He is the founding editor of Cloudthroat, an online Indigenous journal of writing and art. He currently resides in the Navajo Nation where he coordinates a poetry reading series that invites writers to the reservation called Pollentongue.
I also submitted 3 dumb poems to some zines. In my 20s I would sit in my rented Seattle bungalow (apartment built for Seattle Center builders originally) typing poems on a little Olivetti while smoking Delicados after sleeping with faded DJs.
Also! Today I was blessed with a poetry delivery at my doorstep. What a day!
