I had never set up a booth to draw portraits before. Learned some things. Don’t have the 85 year old sit so long in the 93 degree heat. Just do accents of color, don’t sink into a coloring trance as you won’t get many portraits done! Have a handsome booth elf handle potential customers — they don’t want to bother you while you’re drawing. A benefit of having time discipline is that you could schedule sitters on a sign in sheet and…give ’em one of those buzzing pagers like you get at restaurants!
For all of these reasons I think that my first portrait of the day of young master Cy is the most successful — just enough color and still arresting!
